Seneca Richards had one Division I offer, and the school that made it had never seen her play in person.
She grew up in Arizona as the middle of five kids in a basketball family, played at LIU Brooklyn, tore her labrum against Michigan, finished her degree in three years, and came home to finish her career at Northern Arizona University. Now she's in her sixth year as a school counselor, with a bachelor's in psychology and a master's in education and school counseling.
In this episode, Seneca and Jän talk about what happens when the identity you've built since you were four stops fitting. You'll hear how she found a new role when the minutes dried up, why her mom says she's "the one that has expectations" rather than the mean one, and what she means by finding joy in the journey.
- Landing a D1 scholarship from game film alone
- Injury, a redshirt year, and a three-year degree
- Moving from player to graduate assistant
- "Who is Seneca?": life after the game
